In 1884, D’Sousa & Paul established a photographic studio in Panjim. Over the decades, as Goa went through monumental changes, they documented its rich culture and heritage, its people and its transformation. Most of these photos clicked using large-format cameras and glass plate negatives have not survived the vagaries of time, but a few original prints can still be found with private collectors. The photographs reproduced here are from my personal collection.
Over the last couple of months, I have attempted to replicate these moments frozen in time, by shooting the same locations from the same angles. So far I have managed about 40 locations and another 150+ remain. When time permits I will be clicking more photos and adding them to this blog.
